The humble USB port is often at the intersection of AV and IT. In classrooms and conference centers, users increasingly show up with a presentation on a thumb drive or some other device that needs to be integrated with the AV via USB. But elegantly installing USB ports in lecterns, desks, or conference tables isn't always the first (or last) thing people think about.
In the fall, Extron Electronics started shipping its USB HUB4, a four-port USB 2.0 hub the company says is designed for architectural mount applications. It comes in regular or mini adapter plate versions and has both USB mini Type B and captive screw host inputs. It delivers 5V and 500mA on each output for powered peripherals and integrates with Extron enclosures such as the Cable Cubby.
