PORTABLE LINE ARRAYS

The VRX portable line array from JBL Professional addresses the musical instrument market's growing demand for loudspeaker technology comparable to that used in sophisticated staging systems. The VRX932LAP 12-inch powered loudspeaker and the VRX918SP 18-inch powered subwoofer (shown) offer built-in DrivePack DPC-2 amplification in cooperation with Crown. Designed for use in arrays of up to five units in venues that don't require long throws, the VRX932LAP features the company's latest 2408J Annular Ring Diaphragm HF driver technology. The VRX918SP subwoofer contains a 2268FF neodymium magnet patented Differential Drive.

DIGITAL MICROPHONE

When used with digital workstations, the TLM 103 D digital microphone provides favorable recording levels, says its manufacturer Neumann, an affiliate of The Sennheiser Group. Likewise, the builtin A/D converter removes the need to experiment with external converters and pre-amps. The integrated fast peak limiter is available with either a satin nickel or matte black finish and an SG 1 swivel mount.

IN-WALL SUBWOOFER

The IWTS-8eSUB from Atlantic Technology is a THX Ultra certified in-wall subwoofer system designed to deliver high-quality bass reproduction. The system has an improved cabinet and baffie design as well as a new outboard amplifier that is smaller and more powerful than its predecessor. The unit's 8eSub module uses dual 8-inch long-throw woofers to provide the same effective piston area as a 12-inch woofer. The motor assembly and vented multilayer voice coils are purposely oversized for high SPL performance.

DESKTOP INTERCOM

Clear-Com Communications Systems increases user control of its Eclipse Digital Matrix Intercom System with the new V-Series desktop unit. This latest addition to the panel product series can sit on a tabletop or be mounted to a wall for easy access and convenience. It includes a low-profile loudspeaker and a gooseneck microphone. Each of the 12 “talk-down/listen-up” keys has individual audio level control, and a graphical display shows 10 international characters, including Chinese and Russian. As with all V-Series panels, the desktop unit includes the company's Listen Again technology, which uses digital audio memory to allow the user to replay received incoming calls.

AMPLIFIERS

The GX series of amplifiers from QSC comprises two professional models outfitted with features that meet the requirements of popular passive loudspeakers, according to the company. At 8 ohms, the GX3 is rated at 300 watts and the GX5 is rated at 500 watts. Both are outfitted with about two times the continuous power capacity required of top-selling nonpowered loudspeakers, according to the company. The amps are also equipped with input and output connectors that are compatible with nearly every source, loudspeaker, or wiring scheme.

POWERED LINE ARRAYS

The latest addition to the JBL Professional VERTEC DP series of line arrays is the VT4889ADP full-range high-directivity line array element and the companion VT4880ADP ultra-long excursion arrayable subwoofer (shown). The element is a three-way, full-size, lightweight option for applications that require powered loudspeakers. Fitted with two 15-inch, low-frequency transducers, four 8-inch midrange components, and three 1.5-inch neodymium compression drivers with beryllium diaphragms, the loudspeaker weights 205 pounds and is capable of 143 dB SPL max output. The 220-pound subwoofer is a high-output companion fitted with two 18-inch model 2269G transducers, each of which is rated at 2,000 watts continuous, 8,000 watts peak. It's capable of delivering 13 dB SPL.

POWERED LOUDSPEAKER

Meyer Sound's new self-powered UPQ-1P wide-coverage loudspeaker has a power-to-size ratio and sound quality that make it appropriate for theatrical, nightclub, house of worship, and corporate applications. The latest in the company's UltraSeries of products, the UPQ-1P delivers a peak power output of 136 dB SPL with low distortion and offers flexible rigging options, wide vertical coverage, and gradual off-axis roll-off. The 105-pound, trapezo-dial shaped loudspeaker has an 80-degree-by-50-degree constant-Q horn for a uniform response throughout the coverage area, the company says.

SUBWOOFER

EAW's new SB1002 is a large-format, dual-18-inch-loaded sub-woofer that can be groundstacked or flown via an integral rigging system. Offering a direct radiating design, the driver mounting maximizes cone area while it minimizes frontal area, resulting in an acoustical performance and physical configuration suited for creating large subwoofer arrays, says the company. The two 18-inch drivers offer 4.5-inch voice coils and neodymium magnet structure that reduce weight. The operating range of the SB1002 is 27 Hz to 161 Hz (±3 dB) and the maximum sound pressure levels are 129 dB, 135 dB peak.

POWERED LOUDSPEAKERS

Dynacord, a brand of Bosch Communications Systems, developed the D 12A (shown) and D 12-3A powered loudspeakers in response to customer demands for a light loudspeaker system for small- to medium-sized professional events. Both loudspeakers feature integrated digital power amplifers rated at 350 watts (Lo) and 150 watts (Mid/Hi) and have a frequency range of 45 Hz to 20 kHz with a maximum SPL of 131 dB. Input signals can be received via an XLR or jack plug. According to the company, the Voice Coil Tracking Protection system provides reliable protection against thermal overload.
